Insurance Claim
Rebuilds
We handle the reconstruction side of water and fire damage insurance claims — picking up where the mitigation crew leaves off and rebuilding your space back to pre-loss condition. Licensed, insured, and Xactimate-fluent.
How We Work With Your Insurance
Most homeowners face their worst property damage during already stressful circumstances. The last thing you need is to navigate a complex insurance process alone while trying to manage repairs.
M. Fitts Construction works directly with your insurance adjuster from day one. We document damage thoroughly, prepare scopes using industry-standard Xactimate, and advocate on your behalf to ensure you receive full, fair coverage.
Claims We Rebuild
Reconstruction only — we pick up where mitigation crews finish.
Our Process
A clear, step-by-step approach that keeps you informed and protects your claim.
Initial Inspection
We conduct a thorough on-site inspection to document all visible and hidden damage — capturing photos, measurements, and notes that form the foundation of your claim.
Scope of Work
We prepare a detailed scope of work using Xactimate, the same industry-standard software used by insurance adjusters. This ensures our estimate speaks the insurer's language.
Insurance Approval
We work directly with your adjuster, answer their questions, and advocate for full, fair coverage. We push back on underpayment and flag damage that was missed.
Rebuild
Once approved, our licensed team gets to work — picking up where the mitigation crew left off. Framing, drywall, flooring, finish work, all the construction back to pre-loss condition. We keep you informed at every stage.
Final Walkthrough
We walk the completed project with you to confirm everything meets expectations before we close out the job.

Do I have to use the contractor my insurance recommends?
No. You have the right to choose your own licensed contractor in California. Insurance companies may recommend preferred vendors, but you are not required to use them. Choosing your own contractor — one who represents your interests — often leads to better outcomes.
What is Xactimate and why does it matter?
Xactimate is the industry-standard estimating software used by most insurance adjusters. When we prepare your scope using Xactimate, it minimizes disputes over pricing and speeds up approval. It also ensures we're documenting everything the insurer expects to see.
What if the insurance payout doesn't cover everything?
If we believe the approved amount is insufficient, we can prepare a supplemental claim documenting additional damage or costs that were overlooked. This is a normal part of the process — we handle it regularly.
How long does an insurance rebuild typically take?
Timeline depends on the extent of damage and how quickly your insurer approves the scope. Most residential rebuilds run 4–12 weeks once work begins. Larger fire-damage rebuilds can run longer. We'll give you a realistic schedule during our initial inspection.
Do you handle the mitigation / cleanup side of the claim?
No — we handle the rebuild side only. Mitigation work (water extraction, drying, smoke and soot cleanup, content pack-out) is a different specialty handled by restoration companies. We come in once mitigation is complete and rebuild your space back to pre-loss condition. If you need a mitigation referral, we're happy to point you to a trusted partner.
